Balancing is a process of defining the rotor unbalance angle and reducing it via mass correction (e.g. equipment shafts balancing). New shafts and repaired shafts, rotors or rotor wheels must be subjected to balancing.

Design of machines and mechanisms is trying to reduce harmful vibrations by employing correct solutions in construction and manufacturing techniques, gain weight symmetry of all moving parts by adjustments (balancing). Nevertheless, symmetry-breaking conditions resulting in imbalance are intrinsic in manufacturing and operation. In order to reduce imbalance intrinsic in production, repair and operation, they balance rotation bodies (equipment shafts) by altering their mass or geometry (static or dynamic equipment shaft balancing).

Appropriate equipment shaft balancing increases life of blades and rotor wheels by 23-100%, increases useful capacity of rotor wheels by 10-25%. Balancing increases diamond wheel endurance 3 times, and reduces the corrugation of the surfaces being processed 4 times.
